Rapeh

Sacred Medicine of Clarity and Grounding

(Pronounced ha-peh, also spelled Hapé or Rapeh)

Rooted in the shamanic traditions of the Amazon, Rapé is a sacred snuff made from finely ground wild tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) and ashes of medicinal plants or sacred trees. Used for centuries by Indigenous tribes in Brazil and Peru, it is more than a substance—it is ritual medicine, prepared and offered with prayer and deep intention.

✦ Why We Work with Rapé

When offered ceremonially, Rapé becomes a potent ally for:

  • Clearing mental fog and energetic blockages

  • Stillness of the mind and deepening of the breath

  • Grounding before or during spiritual ceremony

  • Releasing stored emotion and returning to presence

  • Activating the body’s natural DMT for expanded awareness

Many experience it as a profound energetic reset—subtle, yet powerful.

✦ A Gateway into Ceremony

Rapé is often offered at the beginning of ceremony to:

  • Open the body’s energy channels

  • Quiet internal noise

  • Prepare for deeper connection—whether through plant medicine, breathwork, or sound healing

It may be used on its own or alongside cacao, blue lotus, kambo, or vibrational healing practices.

What’s Inside Rapé

Each blend of Rapé is unique and sacred. Its two main components:

  • Wild tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) – strong, purifying, grounding

  • Sacred ashes – from trees like Tsunu, Samauma, Mulateiro, or Murici, carrying various spiritual and medicinal properties

Some blends are enhanced with aromatic herbs and plant allies, such as cacao, mint, cinnamon, vanilla, sage, or lemon balm—each chosen for a specific purpose. The recipes are often guarded traditions, prepared in ritual and passed down through generations.

Not to Be Confused with Snuff Tobacco

Although Rapé may appear similar in form to traditional snuff (ยานัตถุ์), it is entirely different in its origin, composition, and purpose.

Snuff tobacco is typically used recreationally or socially in many parts of the world. It is made from Nicotiana tabacum and often includes added flavors, menthol, or sweeteners. Its main purpose is to deliver a nicotine hit or offer temporary sinus relief, and it is commonly sniffed or snorted casually.

In contrast, Rapé (Hapé) originates from Indigenous Amazonian traditions and is used ceremonially. It contains Nicotiana rustica—a much stronger and spiritually revered type of tobacco—combined with sacred ashes and medicinal herbs. Rather than serving recreational or physiological purposes, Rapé is intended for spiritual healing, grounding, and energetic cleansing. It is not inhaled casually, but administered with intention, often blown through a sacred pipe as part of a ritual.

✦ A Cleansing Experience

The effects of Rapé vary per person and blend. Responses may include:

  • Tear or mucus release

  • Emotional clearing

  • Momentary stillness or deep presence

  • Rarely, purging or nausea — part of the medicine’s work

These are not side effects—they are signs of purification, as the medicine clears stuck energy across physical, emotional, and energetic layers.

✦ Not for Escape—But for Return

Rapé is not psychedelic, nor does it create a “high.”
It is subtle, yet powerful. A sacred pause. A doorway inward.
It brings you back to your center, to your truth, to the present moment.
